BA in Linguistics

Remember the language spoken by the Na'vi people in the blockbuster movie Avatar? A linguist worked with director James Cameron to create a unique language with a consistent sound system, morphology, and syntax.

Learn to think like and work as a linguist in our new undergraduate program and explore the structures, acquisition, and histories of human languages around the world.

We can prepare you to pursue exciting careers in a variety of industries, including government (specifically intelligence agencies), education, field research, law, pharmacology, and computer science. Our program also serves as an excellent primer for graduate work in linguistics and other language-related fields such as speech pathology, deaf education, audiology, or the teaching of English as a second language.

In addition to your classes, socialize with your new linguistics community. Join the Student Linguistics Association of North Texas, our student organization devoted to discussing exciting language trends. Attend our popular colloquium series, which has featured speakers like John Swales, Dan Everett, and Sali Tagliamonte.
