Dr. Sadaf Munshi received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from UT Austin. Among the courses that she teaches are Historical Linguistics, History of English Language, and Gypsy Language and Culture. She works in the areas of historical and comparative linguistics, language contact, language documentation, and grammatical analysis and theory. Her research focuses on Indo-Aryan languages (e.g. Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, and Romani or "Gypsy") and Burushaski. Munshi was born and raised in Kashmir (India) where she received most of earlier education (including a BS in biosciences). Before coming to the United States, she pursued a Master of Arts degree and a Master of Philosophy degree in Linguistics from the University of Delhi. Besides linguistics, she likes traveling, reading, writing, and painting.
